Bill and Brian guide alongside a small crew of licensed Montana guides, many of whom have been part of the outfit season after season. Guides don’t rotate through here. The people taking you up the mountain know this country, these leases, and how Bill runs a camp.

Our Team

Bill Hoppe

Owner

Bill has spent 50 years guiding elk hunters in Montana and knows this country from decades in the field. He brings deep experience reading elk, weather, terrain, and changing conditions, and he still takes an active role in the operation today.

Brian Hoppe

Co-owner, Guide

Brian has extensive hunting and guiding experience in this country. He is skilled at reading elk movement, changing weather, and terrain, and he works closely with each hunter to adapt the hunt to their experience, ability, and goals. He brings a calm, practical approach to the field and takes pride in making every hunt personal.

Tom Kuhn

Guide

Tom is a longtime member of the North Yellowstone Outfitters crew and brings a steady, experienced approach to every hunt. He knows the country, understands how elk move through it, and has a good feel for adjusting the day to the hunter and the conditions.

He’s dependable in the field and someone hunters enjoy spending time with.

Burt has guided beside Bill for all 50 years, since the first season. He knows this country the way most people know their own backyard: the drainages, the wind, where the elk hold when the pressure is on. He’s easing toward retirement now.

Fifty years is a long time to keep saddling horses for the same outfit, and it says as much about how this camp is run as anything we could write here.

Burt Walter

Guide

Carl has spent decades building relationships across the hunting community, and many hunters first find their way to North Yellowstone Outfitters through him. He knows the business, the people, and what makes a good hunt.

He continues to guide because he enjoys the country, the camp, and the hunters who return season after season.

Carl Chidiac

Guide, Customer Service Manager

Brian joined the crew this year, but he has hunted alongside these guys through many seasons and knows District 540 well. He understands where elk move, where they hold, and how quickly conditions can change. This year simply made it official.
